  Title: Recent results on partitions and hooks using the abacus
  Abstract: Partitions are studied both for their own intrinsic value and for their applications to other areas including the representation theory of the symmetric group. In this talk we describe some of the current research on partitions and introduce the abacus diagram, which is useful in answering some questions.
